Episode #8: Engine Overhauls
Did you know?
Did you know one of the most rewarding things you can do to your truck is to have the engine overhauled?
The peace of mind you get from having a fresh engine under the hood of your truck is extremely rewarding.
How do you know when to rebuild your engine?
There are several signs that your engine is coming due for an overhaul:
- Your engine begins to consume oil.
- You start seeing crankcase pressure or blowby.
- Your engine is beginning to have decreased fuel economy.
- Your engine starts to have decreased power.
- Your engine starts to make knocking sounds.
How can you be sure that you need an overhaul?
-
You can perform engine oil analysis during your next oil change.
-
You are visibly seeing blowby out of your blowby tube or oil fill neck.
-
You can review the date of the last rebuild performed on your engine.
-
You can see fluids beginning to mix within your engine.
Who should I take my engine to be overhauled by?
Performing an engine overhaul is a big investment and there are a lot of qualified shops out there. Our suggestion is to do significant research on the shop and ensure they have great Google reviews, social media reviews, or great customer recommendations.
Having your engine overhauled can be a wonderful and seamless experience by the right shop, but it can also be a horrific and stressful experience by the wrong shop. Do your due diligence and take your time when selecting the right shop to work with.
Should I use OEM or Aftermarket parts for my overhaul?
Both OEM and Aftermarket parts can be quality parts. Each shop has its own preferences, as do we here at Legend. At Legend, we prefer aftermarket parts, mainly PAI and Interstate Mcbee. The reason we rely on these particular brands is due to the quality of their parts, their customer service, and the fact that in the slight case something happens, and a part fails, these brands seem to stand behind their products more than OEM and other Aftermarket brands.
If you are wondering if you need an overhaul or would like a quote, you can always rely on the Legend Truck and Equipment professionals to keep your truck in the best working order possible. So feel free to call or text 1.855.LEGEND8 (1.855.534.3638)
